Short breaks statement
The short breaks statement contains information about short breaks. It tells you: what types of short break services are available in Milton Keynes
Short breaks
Short breaks enable children and young people to try something different and make new friends while having time away from their primary carers. They are also an opportunity for carers to take some time out.
A Short Break could be a:
- school-based scheme
- sporting or leisure activity
- night out
- stay overnight (following involvement from the children with disabilities team)
- whole family outing where siblings can enjoy activities together
Vouchers are only given to children and families with a finalised EHCP produced by Milton Keynes Council - if you are currently going through the process of getting a plan put in place you can only apply for vouchers after you receive the final version.
If you do not live in the MK area please contact your own local authority to find out what provision they have for short breaks.
We are continuously looking to increase the number and range of providers of activities to join the scheme and regularly update the brochure and many of you have been encouraging the venues you visit to join the scheme - this is appreciated and helps us to extend the variety of venues that families can choose from. Please keep checking the brochure - we will highlight any new providers.
