Sensory Team
To support setting staff with their work with children and young people with sensory needs, the Sensory Team will offer training sessions to develop an understanding of the pupil’s needs and the impact of the sensory impairment.
The Sensory Team support children and young people with hearing, vision and multi-sensory (deaf-blind) needs in Milton Keynes.
To build the capacity of setting staff the Sensory Team members provide a range of training opportunities to enable setting staff to feel confident when working with children and young people with sensory needs in their setting.
As sensory needs are a low incident, high complexity need, the Sensory Team provide targeted and personalised training to setting staff. This would consider the sensory needs of the child/young person to support their access to learning and development.
Training may include:
- Deaf Awareness in School/Setting
- Vision Impairment Awareness in School/Setting
- Multi-Sensory Impairment Awareness in School/Setting
- Use of technology to support the sensory needs (ICT, hearing aids, radio aid systems, Lap tops / IPAD, etc)
- Modification of resources
- Communication development
- Social skills
- Self-Advocacy
- Development of language and literacy skills, in the mode required by the child/young person, for example, Braille, British Sign Language, etc...
