Centralised training for professionals

Centralised Training

The Milton Keynes SEND Team have produced a Centralised Training Booklet  for schools and settings across Milton Keynes. This year the offer has been refreshed to include a range of new topics. This is in recognition of the changing landscape of need both locally and nationally, and to help schools and settings to continue to broaden their knowledge and skills to support the inclusion of children and young people with a range of SEND needs. Sessions will be delivered by a range of Specialist Teachers, Educational Psychologists, special school colleagues, and local health partners (including Speech and Language Therapy Services), as well as some external providers.

Wider Milton Keynes City Council colleagues are able to attend sessions where relevant to their work and where numbers can accommodate the request.

Please click here to access the Centralised Training Booklet

(Please note that it is updated regularly)

Update:  We are in the process of developing a new booking system where you will be able to book training from here and manage your own bookings.

Sensory Team

Sensory Team

To support setting staff with their work with children and young people with sensory needs, the Sensory Team will offer training sessions to develop an understanding of the pupil’s needs and the impact of the sensory impairment.

The Sensory Team support children and young people with hearing, vision and multi-sensory (deaf-blind) needs in Milton Keynes.

To build the capacity of setting staff the Sensory Team members provide a range of training opportunities to enable setting staff to feel confident when working with children and young people with sensory needs in their setting.

As sensory needs are a low incident, high complexity need, the Sensory Team provide targeted and personalised training to setting staff.  This would consider the sensory needs of the child/young person to support their access to learning and development.

Training may include:

  • Deaf Awareness in School/Setting
  • Vision Impairment Awareness in School/Setting
  • Multi-Sensory Impairment Awareness in School/Setting
  • Use of technology to support the sensory needs (ICT, hearing aids, radio aid systems, Lap tops / IPAD, etc)
  • Modification of resources
  • Communication development
  • Social skills
  • Self-Advocacy
  • Development of language and literacy skills, in the mode required by the child/young person, for example, Braille, British Sign Language, etc...
