Equipment and mobility

Some people need equipment to support them to manage a long-term condition or disability. In Milton Keynes you can access support with equipment and mobility in the following ways.

If you have a mobility problem or a disability, which makes it difficult to get around or do every day tasks you may find that equipment or adaptations make this easier. If you are not sure what equipment may help you can use our Equipment Self Assessment tool to look at possible solutions and then you buy or request to loan any recommended items.

Occupational Therapy

The Occupational Therapy team have put together some information about adaptations and equipment, which can be found below.

  • The need or replacement of equipment – seating, toileting, self-care
  • Minor works or major adaptations – the service will assess and make recommendations only
  • Housing – please contact your housing association or Milton Keynes Council. The Children's Occupational Therapy service is not commissioned to provide this service for Milton Keynes.

Physiotherapy

Children’s physiotherapy is the treatment and care of babies, children and young people. Children’s physiotherapists have additional specialist knowledge and experience of child development and childhood disabilities.

Children’s physiotherapists often look at how a child’s motor skills (movement skills) are developing and give advice on how to encourage good development and how to improve or optimise skills. Physiotherapists also work with people who have long-term conditions or disabilities to help them to keep their muscles, joints and respiratory system in the best condition to help them to be active and enjoy life to the full.
