Identifying, Labelling and Understanding Emotions

Today I Feel… An Alphabet of Emotions by Madalena Moniz. This book has a double spread for each letter of the alphabet and explores the different feelings that children may have.

How Do YOU Feel? By Anthony Browne Great illustrations for each emotion makes it easy for children to identify and relate to the feelings. This book aims to shows children that feelings are only temporary.

When I’m Feeling books by Trace Moroney This is a series of books exploring a range of emotions - angry, jealous, kind, scared, lonely and loved.

All About Feelings by Felicity Brooks Explores a range of feelings in depth.

How Are You Feeling Today? by Molly Potter Allows children to choose how they are feeling and provides an understanding of the feeling strategies of how they could cope with that feeling.

What Are Feelings: Lift-the-Flap First Questions and Answers by Katie Daynes. An interactive multi-sensory book that focuses on simple emotions.

My Many Coloured Days by Dr Seuss Simple rhymes to explore feelings.

A Book of Feelings by Amanda McCardie. A story of siblings and the emotions that they feel throughout the day.

Understanding the Physical Signs of Emotions

1-2-3 My Feelings and Me by Goldie Millar This book is great for young children. It looks at how emotions effect our bodies and minds and strategies that we can use to help ourselves.

Listening to My Body by Gabi Garcia An interactive guide that helps children to name their feelings and understand the physiological symptoms of each one.

In My Heart: A Book of Feelings by Jo Witek This book uses simple language that children can relate to and support children to understand the physical symptoms of each feeling.

Tiger Days, by M.H. Clark and illustrated by Anna Hurley This book links each feeling to an animal and uses that animal to explore how children may feel and act when they are experiencing different emotions.

My Body Sends a Signal by Natalia Maguire An interactive book including a story about how our body reacts when we are experiencing different emotions.

The Worrysaurus by Rachel Bright Explains the feeling of butterflies in tummies.

Sadness

When Sadness Comes to Call by Eva Eland Helps children to understand and deal with sadness.

The Rabbit Listened by Cori Doerrfeld A story of dealing with loss and having someone to listen to.

Worry

Worry Wilma Jean the Worry Machine by Julia Cook. A book about feeling worried and how people around us can provide support for when children feel this way.

The Colour Monster Pop Up by Anna Llenas. An interactive multi-sensory book that gives colours to the basic emotions and supports children to begin to label these.

Jack’s Worry by Sam Zuppardi Jack plays the trumpet and has a worry that won’t leave him alone until he speaks to his mum about it.

Ruby’s Worry by Tom Percival This story can show children that everyone worries sometimes and that it can be really helpful to talk to someone about that worry to make it go away.

Little Tree by Loren Long Tackles the topic of fear of change and transition.
